King size upholstered headboards can add a decorative touch to your room and can be done for a fraction of the cost of acquired header. To make your own headboard, you can coordinate with your color scheme and express yourself by adding your own personal touch. The headboard can be plain or ornate as your taste dictates. If later you decide to redecorate, you can simply change the fabric in its header to coordinate. Determine the shape of your head. Ask a lumberyard cut a half-inch plywood to its basic dimensions. For a king size bed, the width of the mattress is 76 inches. Adding four to eight inches to the width of your head which will run for two to four inches beyond each side of the mattress. The height of the head depends on your personal preferences, but should be designed to extend at least 28 inches above the top of the mattress. Use a jigsaw to start adding decorative curves or arches to the shape of your head. Place the plywood board on a layer of batting fabric. Cut the batting, adding six inches to each edge. Fold the batting on the back of the headboard and staple piece in position using a staple gun.

Stitch two or three decorative fabric panels to accommodate the width of your head. The length of fabric will be determined by the height of your head. Hide placing tape seams or decorative elements. Lay your fabric pattern down on the work surface. Place the piece of header with batting down on the fabric. If you chose a fabric with a design with a clear direction, make sure the fabric is placed in the right direction. Cutting the fabric, adding six inches for each edge. Fold the fabric to the back of the king size upholstered headboards and staple to the back with a staple gun. Working from top to bottom and then pulling aside the tight fabric. Cut a piece of plain cotton or muslin to the exact dimensions of your head. Sew the panels together as necessary to accommodate the width of your head.
